The Elusive Dream Job

Lately, as I’ve gotten back into working on my projects, the idea of a “dream job” came up every now and then. We’ve all heard that term before, right? Parents and teachers asked us about it in the form of the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. At some point, many of us have discussed it briefly with friends, colleagues, or guidance counselors.

It’s an idea that makes you think about the long term, the future. Personally, it’s not really something I’ve given much attention to. You know, life happens and before you realize it, the “dream” gets taken out of that phrase altogether and you’re just left with the “job” part. It’s the way it goes sometimes. Still, these two words have me wondering again, and maybe you, too. Perhaps it’s time to start thinking about what our dream jobs look like and how we can start the path to pursue them.
Mind you, it’s not like it’s a mandatory thing. I’m amazed by those who are content with the jobs they have. There are those who work as secretaries, accountants, or associates and are truly happy with what they do. I find that positively admirable! But for those still on the hunt for their dream job, I hope you’re on the path to getting there!

Can I share a little bit of my path with you? Part of my journey to my dream job involved sharpening my writing skills through education. Even though it was difficult, I’ll always be glad I did it! This blog and my side projects are part of that trek as well. Who knows how long it will take me to get there? I figure if I do my best, keep going, and keep praying, then I’ll reach it. It certainly is exhausting, even painful sometimes, but anything worth working hard for always is. I’m not quitting, and I encourage you not to either!
